CASINO proposes the development of a compendium of innovative challenge-based learning games presented for use specifically on smartphones and tablets, the devices of choice of NEET target groups. This will include the design and development of Digital Breakouts and Online Escape Rooms with all the features of successful mobile games but with a series of embedded-learning layers to develop key transversal skills like literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, problem solving, etc. On successful completion of each challenge, the learner/gamer will attract a badge of merit/achievement which will be benchmarked against recognised learning outcomes in the key competence frameworks. In this way, a skills portfolio will be automatically attributed to each gamer who completes one or more of the bespoke resources designed. This will enable even the most reluctant learner to develop the first steps of an educational journey to continuous vocational education and training.

About Us

The main aim of the CASINO project is the design and development of a compendium of mobile games to

• Engage reluctant learners
• Raise their self-esteem and self-awareness in an immediate and tangible way
• Build their self-confidence
• Motivate them to begin a pathway to continuous vocational education and training

To achieve this aim partners will design and produce the following Intellectual Outputs:
IO1. A compendium of Digital Breakouts that are designed to progressively build and accredit the selected key competences
IO2. In-service training for VET tutors, counsellors and guidance experts
IO3. Online Game CASINO – MOOC

Learning Materials

Compendium of Digital Breakout Challenges

The Compendium of Digital Breakout Challenges forms the core intellectual output of the CASINO project. The aim of this output is to address a problem which has proven to be not solvable through mainstream advertising, outreach and communication - reaching NEETs and attracting them back to education and training.

In-Service Training

Providing bespoke VET supports that meet the needs of specific sub-sets of end-users is a challenge for many VET service providers. Harnessing the potential of e-learning through the myriad of online platforms and social media environments that are available can have a major impact on the accessibility and viability of VET provision. The in-service training will comprise 50 hours of learning, broken down into 25 hours of workshop based training focused on the development of digital media skills and 25 hours of self-directed online learning focused on the methodological approach selected and working in online environments

CASINO MOOC

The proposed CASINO MOOC will provide access to the Compendium of Digital Breakout Resources and the In-service Training programme and will have all the features associated with best-practice in MOOC design and development. The CASINO MOOC will allow access to a very large number of learners and will be scalable and capable of supporting a large number of end users.
